Mr. Carruthers was formerly a member of the domestic tax team at Grant Thornton in Halifax. His past work experience has allowed him to develop in-depth knowledge and current perspectives on the wealth management industry, which he incorporates in his approach to financial and tax planning. A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, Mr. Carruthers is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Investment Manager, is life insurance licensed and has completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course. His areas of expertise include a broad base of corporate and personal tax planning, corporate reorganizations, compliance, and estate planning. In addition, he has a keen interest in capital markets, cryptocurrencies, technology, family businesses and real estate development. Outside of work, he is also involved with several community organizations in a volunteer capacity and has been an instructor for CPA Nova Scotia. John Carruthers brings over 40 years of financial advice to his role of Director, Client Development at CI Private Wealth’s Halifax office. Previously, as a Partner with Grant Thornton LLP, he was a leader in business valuation and corporate finance for the Atlantic region. He practiced in the Halifax office working with a variety of individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations. Mr. Carruthers graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1979. In 1983, he became a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA), earning the highest mark on the Uniform Final Evaluation in the Province of Nova Scotia. Following the trend of specialization in the accounting industry, he became a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) in 1993 and later earned his Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation in 2009. He is a keen community supporter of organizations such as Special Olympics, Commissionaires Nova Scotia and NSCAD University.

Prior to CI Private Wealth, Mr. Knickle was the Branch Manager of TD Canada Trust in Lunenburg from 1975 to 2001. The Lunenburg branch under his leadership had one of the largest deposit bases in Atlantic Canada. Mr. Knickle brings to the table a wealth of financial expertise. As a seasoned financial advisor, he has weathered the ebbs and flows of the ever-changing financial landscape. Currently, he is a Trustee with St. Paul’s United Church and is Chairman of Upper Blue Rocks Cemetery Society. He resides in Blue Rocks and in his spare time enjoys supporting charities and spending time with his grandchildren.

Prior to joining Stonegate, Jon spent several years with one of Canada's largest wealth planning firms where he focused on portfolio management, relationship management and financial planning for high-net-worth private clients.
Jon is passionate in the world of finance and is a member of the Halifax CFA Society. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance from Saint Mary's University and holds the distinguished Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Outside of work, Jon enjoys travelling around the world with his wife, although his favourite place to visit is his family property in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. He is also a lifelong basketball fan having played for both Dalhousie University's and Saint Mary's University's varsity teams.
James E. Ross
James (Jaime) Ross is the President of CI Private Wealth. Over the past decade, Mr. Ross has held senior leadership roles and been instrumental in the growth of wealth and investment management firms. As Vice-President, Services and Corporate Secretary at Synergy Asset Management, he played a key role in one of Canada’s most innovative mutual fund companies, from its inception in 1998 to October 2003 when the firm was acquired by CI Financial. After the acquisition, Mr. Ross assumed the position of Senior Vice-President, Risk Management for Assante Wealth Management, overseeing compliance and learning functions across the organization and its affiliate, United Financial Corporation. Mr. Ross began his career as legal counsel at the Ontario Securities Commission and, over the course of seven years, gained experience in Capital Markets, the Office of the General Counsel and Market Operations – Investment Funds. He was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1990, after receiving his LLB from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario (Huron College). In addition to being President of CI Private Wealth, Mr. Ross is also Senior Vice-President, Wealth and Estate Planning at Assante Wealth Management, an affiliated organization as part of the CI Financial group of companies. Assante is a leading provider of integrated wealth management solutions, designed to meet the needs and goals of individuals, families and businesses across Canada.
Jackie Mistry is Vice-President, Private Client Services of CI Private Wealth, overseeing the firm’s client service and operational teams. In this role, Ms. Mistry creates the foundations for CI Private Wealth’s exceptional client experience by providing operational support for the recommended wealth management products and services. For more than 25 years, Ms. Mistry’s career in wealth management and mutual fund operations has focused on assisting high net worth clients in meeting their unique financial needs. During this time, she’s successfully built and fostered collaborative teams to implement new products and services, introduce system enhancements and increase operational efficiencies.
